Check consistency.
Check spelling.
Required (photo) image files are TIFF, PSD or EPS.
Keep in mind that repeatedly opening and resaving JPEG photos will occur cumulative losses with each save, making quality worse each time you resave the JPEG.
Images 1:1 size: at least 300 dpi. Don’t reduce the size afterwards.
Microscope images for publication: immidiately store original (JPEG)files in TIFF format (LZW-compression).
Provide us your (RGB)originals early in the production process (in particular fluorescence images).
Save black and white pictures as grayscale (not RGB).
Create a drawing in Adobe Illustrator and (pixel)images in Adobe Photoshop.
Check line weights (at least 0.25 pt 1:1 size) If you scale objects afterwards: check thickness again.
Only Illustrator- and Photoshop gradients are suitable for press purposes.
Avoid resampling pixels.
Digital camera: use the maximum quality setting.
If possible: format RAW
