Clinical Genetics

Clinical Genetics

The department of Clinical Genetics is involved in the search for hereditary factors that play a role in the development of genetic disorders. This can be subdivided in two parts:

  • Diagnostics at the level of genetic counseling and laboratory diagnostics. Laboratory diagnostics can be subdivided into biochemical analysis, cytogenetics and DNA daignostics. Further information can be found at the following pages:
    1. Genetic counseling
    2. Biochemical diagnostics
    3. Cytogenetic analysis
    4. DNA diagnostics
  • Research to identify new disease genes involved in neurogenetic disorders (mental retardation, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, Ataxia and ADHD), congenital disorders of the limbs, and lysosomal disorders. The identification of those genes will be the starting point for molecular, biochemical and cell biological studies to unravel the cellular basis of the disorders.
