Research department
Research of the department is focussed on two main topics: musculoskeletal disorders and diseases in children.
Other topics focus on urogenital tract problems in elderly men. The department also holds the chair of intellectual disability medicine and conducts research activities in this area. The research questions usually have a direct link to daily clinical practice. The studies are designed from a clinical epidemiological perspective and include large prospective cohort studies, diagnostic studies and randomised clinical trials. The research staff also has considerable expertise in performing systematic reviews and meta-analyses.
All studies are carried out in close co-operation with general practitioners in the wide surroundings of Rotterdam. A research network of general practices (named HONEUR) has recently been set up with more than 40 general practitioners in the region. These practices have agreed to participate in patient oriented research projects on a regular basis.The research department has shown a large growth in recent years and currently more than 40 staff-members are enthusiastically working on the various research projects listed on this website.
